I have long considered Matthew 7.21-23 the most terrifying passage in Scripture. Thanks to the witness of the Holy Spirit and First John, it does not terrify personally, but reminds that there are so "many" (His Word, not mine) that profess Christ but don't possess Christ.
Long ago A. W. Pink observed,
"The nature of Christ's salvation is woefully misrepresented by the present-day evangelist. He announces a Savior from hell rather than a Savior from sin. And that is why so many are fatally deceived, for there are multitudes who wish to escape the Lake of Fire who have no desire to be delivered from their carnality and worldliness."

It seems that we fail to daily see the depth of our current sin. We have forgotten that the journey is one of daily denying self, taking up the cross, and following Christ. Thank you for the reminder.
