Tune Tuesday

It's my blog and I'll do this if I want to...

Maybe I'll even stick with it...depends on comments.

Here's the deal...each Tuesday that I'm able I'll post something about music...and you are invited to share your insights as a "comment" on this blog (it will show up on facebook also, but in order to be entered in the contest, you must put a comment on the blog...might mean setting up an account or something...but...I don't want to have to check two sites)

On the following Monday at 5pm I will randomly choose one person from those who have commented and that person will receive a book or album...from me!

Why?

Because it's my blog, and I'll do it if I want to :)

And it starts now...(note to any potential witch-hunters...you might want to bail now)...

With discretion (no foul language etc or I'll yank it quickly), what is your favorite "secular" song, either present day or past. Keep in mind that I'm so, ah, seasoned I don't listen to "oldies," but rather to "ancients."

And I love all kinds of music...everything from (Christian) rap (an oxymoron to some) to the Beach Boys to some "country" to classical and, of course, Celtic Thunder!

But my favorite "secular" song by my favorite "secular" group remains this:

Harry Winters here, I know it's not really a secular song but definately a secular artist at the time and one of my all time favorites from the 70s; http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=xTPmCSu_55M#t=2s.

Love music. The Lord wired me that way, I guess and, like you, I have an extremely broad musical taste. For me this is a difficult question, there are just so many songs I could choose. I guess I would have to go with "Once Upon a Time" by the Moody Blues. Beautiful music, beautiful lyrics, always makes me close my eyes and sing along.

Jack, look up the song, "House of the Rising Sun." Listen to it and think of the words to "Amazing Grace." Research the song of "Amazing Grace:" it is a wail to a condition. Guess what? So is "The House of The Rising Sun."

Roy, we sing that every week at one of the prison's in which I minister; in fact back in the old kCYFC days we sang it in Bible clubs all over; it also "works" to Gilligans Island as well as a zillion other songs..here's a bit of a bluesy version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44C5rjGYNTY

I tried to leave a comment through my phone a couple of days ago and I guess it never made it through... Anyhow, I'd have to say it's a toss-up between "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd, and "No Sugar Tonight/ New Mother Nature" by The Guess Who. It's really tough to narrow it down though. There's so much good music out there!

I hardly listen to any modern secular music...but old songs are a different story. "Favorite" is an awfully hard thing for me to pin down, but right now one of the ones I like most is "They Can't Take That Away From Me" sung by Fred Astaire. (How's that for ancient?) :)
