Brief Rant

As the hell discussion continues...

Many don't "like" the idea of hell...

Many don't "understand" it....

Many say it isn't "just," nor "sensible," nor "loving," nor "fair."

Do they "understand" the Cross? the Gospel? the Atonement?

Does "it" (whatever "it" is) have to make "sense" to be true?

Summary of the Bible:  God is God, I am not.

How can we know if something is true unless we understand it, or at least understand part of it?

"understand part of it"...but at the same time 'My thoughts are not your thoughts'...I think too many want there understanding so perfect that they fully understand God...and that won't happen here...or there...

I agree that we can't fully understand God -- that's a pretty weak God, if you can understand him fully -- but at the same time, I don't think he asks for only blind faith. Jesus "gave many convincing proofs that he was alive" (Acts 1:3); the whole point of John is that you believe, based (partly, but not exclusively) on the strength of the signs, and we are to "be ready to give answer to anyone who asks the reason" for our faith (1 Pet?).

Truth is still truth, even if you don't believe it, and some never will. But we have a responsibility to to try to understand and make understandable.

Concur, Adam. Our faith is not "blind," but neither is it "proveable" in the strict sense. And I do believe (and have been guilty of...and repented of) trying to put Him into our box (no matter the motive) instead of realizing that He is unboxable :)

Sadly, Jack, they do not understand Romans 1 - or they dismiss it; they can't seen to understand that if the consequences of sin/disobedience/unbelief are removed then the concept of God being both 'just' and the 'justifier' makes absolutely no sense. One cannot take the Word of God and interpret it through an overlay of man's preferences or presuppositions.
